This is the second win for Mercedes Homes - and the highest award our industry can bestow. There are thousands of American home builders; fewer than four dozen have ever won a National Housing Quality Award. Only three other builders in the nation have ever won two NHQ awards for their entire company. With a 1996 and now a 2008 win, we can rightfully call ourselves the best of the best in the nation. This is a very proud moment for Mercedes Homes.
Winning the NHQ Award requires more than just operating a great home building company; it requires genuine effort on the part of every individual. Not only must candidates have sophisticated operating processes that improve performance - those processes must also be documented in a very extensive application and then thoroughly verified by a site visit by a panel of NHQ Award judges. Everyone worked very hard to prepare for the site visits. In June and July, judges visited corporate, the Space Coast division, Tampa division and our Dallas Fort Worth division. They were clearly impressed by what they found.
Professional Builder editorial director Paul Deffenbaugh said, "The National Housing Quality Award is the hardest award to win in home building. It requires dedication and purpose throughout a home building company, and only the best can achieve this distinction."
